LEVEL 1 Introduction :
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust – Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines covers basic product knowledge and skills required in the service & sale of wine.
This is a good introductory course for a wine enthusiast who wants to learn about wine in a more structured and systematic way. Tasting the basic styles / types of wines, food & wine matching and storage / serving of wines form an integral part of the course.
The main objectives of the course are:
- Introduce the main styles of wines
- Learn the characteristics of the principle grape varieties
- The WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting
- Service and retail of wine
- Matching Food & Wine
To gain the Level 1 qualification candidates will be required to:
Complete a program of training delivered by a WSET Level 1 Approved Programme Provider
Successfully complete
- a multiple choice paper of 30 questions
- a portfolio of tasting notes.
Fees include study materials, wine samples, tuition & examination. Course materials will be made available on the day of the course.
LEVEL 2 Introduction :
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust – Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Wines is suitable for anyone who wishes to enhance their knowledge on the subject.
The qualification offers broad coverage of all product categories in the field of wines and spirits, together with basic wine tasting technique. It underpins job skills and competencies in the customer service and sales functions of the hospitality, retail and wholesale industries.
The main objectives of the course are:
- Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting and food & wine matching
- Learn about viticulture and the wine making process.
- Know about key wine-and-spirit producing regions of the world
- Understand key grape varietals: Chardonnay; Sauvignon Blanc; Riesling; Merlot; Cabernet Sauvignon; Pinot Noir; Syrah and Grenache
- Increase knowledge of sparkling wines, sweet wines, fortified wines and liqueurs
To gain the Level 2 qualification candidates will be required to undergo training in Wines and Spirits of the world along with wine tasting as a part of every class.
Followed by :
- An hour long multiple choice examination
- A portfolio of tasting notes.
